North Lancashire, Back to work Project gets £19,000,000 - Nineteen million pounds.
 

 

Nineteen million pounds for use in North Lanarkshire, with the stated aim of getting 2000 off benefits etc and back into employment.

Skills Minister, Maureen Watt, says that  "North Lanarkshire's Working is an excellent new initiative that will help to bridge this gap and ensure that more people are able to improve their skills and move on to new employment opportunities."

The North Lanarkshire Working Scheme, has the backing of the local council together with three local colleges. Local residents will have access to a 'one-stop-shop', with help for training and other measures to help the long term unemployed. Also included, will be single parents and younger people.

One in Five of the local population is is out of work, together with one in eight who are claiming incapacity benefit.

Maureen McConachie of the regeneration services at North Lanarkshire Council, says that "There will be a unique chance for us to make a real change in this area." Barriers which have prevented some from attending the job centre will now be lifted, and we see a possibility of people now entering the job market!

When one thinks of 'job training' all sorts of benefit related schemes are visualised.
