The case in West London is not an isolated case. Such
housing benefits fiascos are to be found in all parts of the UK. The
basic fact is, that if a family becomes homeless, then the local
authority is responsible - in law - for providing that family with
suitable housing accommodation.
That law was passed by central government
and the effects - directly and indirectly - are paid for by the
taxpayer.
In some cases, the annual rent of these houses -
provided for by housing benefits - would build a couple of decent
homes. Something, somewhere is very very wrong about this present
housing benefits system.
Get off the back of the recipients, and shout
about this wasteful government that allows such an idiotic housing
benefits system to flourish!
