SSP - Telling your Employer that you are Sick!

It might sound stupid to you, but there is a right way and several wrong ways you can tell your employer that you are actually sick.

Simply not turning up for work, is not a reasonable way to tell your employer that you are sick, and wanting to claim SSP. But it happens!

How to Tell Your Employer you are Sick and want to claim SSP.

Many businesses will have their own set of rules about how you tell them that you are sick, and also what happens after you tell them. If your employer has their own rules - which are normally referred to in your 'contract of employment' then you need to be aware of these and abide by them. It would be as well to make yourself aware of these employer's rules - even when you are feeling fit and well. It may well be that the rules ask you to notify in a certain way, and in a certain time limite - maybe in writing.
